UK GDPR, Equality Act, EU AI Act

Do I need an AI policy?

Probably, if your staff use AI. No UK statute we read requires a document called an AI policy, but UK GDPR makes you accountable for personal data put into AI tools and needs an impact assessment for high-risk processing, and the EU AI Act requires AI literacy measures if you deploy AI in the EU. A written policy is how most firms show they meet those duties. Tell us where you are and Joe will talk it through.

Every provider below was read on its own page through our fetch box, and the row says what that page published on the day we read it. 3 of 31 publish a figure; the rest are listed too, because how many will not quote a number is the most useful thing about this market. Nothing here is a quote for your job: it is what other people advertise.

Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2). 3 of the 31 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 28 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 2 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere. The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source in GBP (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences), so N counts sources, never sentences; 97 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded. The fuller derivation this dataset is chartered to grow into (not yet what the figures above are; they are each source's own published figure as read): per provider its own published price for an AI policy or the product it sits in (template one-off, template subscription per year or month, solicitor fixed fee, HR retainer, governance consultancy day rate or readiness package), normalised ex VAT; per route the median and range, the share that publish versus quote, and the cost of the cheapest route that covers each obligation in the register

The process

  1. Tell us what you need and how to reach you. About a minute, no account.
  2. Joe reads it himself and replies directly. Nobody else receives it.
  3. You get a short call to talk it through. Go ahead with something, ask more, or do nothing.

This is a free information site. When you send an enquiry, Joe, who runs this site, reads it and replies to you himself; no firm receives your details and you pay nothing to ask. It carries no advertising, no sponsored placement and no affiliate links, and no provider in the table has paid to be there. Every rule is quoted from legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK or the European Commission with a link, and every price is read from the provider's own page on the date shown. Nothing here is legal advice; check the source before you rely on it.

Questions, answered directly

Do I need an AI policy?

No UK statute we read requires a document called an AI policy, but UK GDPR accountability, impact assessments for high-risk processing and the EU AI Act's literacy duty all expect you to control how staff use AI. A policy is how most businesses show it.(UK GDPR Article 5: principles, including accountability)

Does my company need an AI policy if we sell into the EU?

Article 4 of the EU AI Act requires deployers of AI systems to take AI literacy measures for their staff, with national enforcement from 2 August 2026.(European Commission: AI literacy, questions and answers (AI Act Article 4))

How many UK businesses use AI?

The ONS business survey found 30% of businesses used at least one AI technology in September 2026, and 38% of those with 10 or more employees.(AI adoption and AI policy series: every row, with its source)

What does it cost to get an AI policy in place: a template, a solicitor, an HR provider or a governance consultancy?

The median published figure is £42.50. The middle half of the readings sit between £34.99 and £1,400 and the whole spread runs £34.99 to £1,400, over 3 figures read on 2026-10-28. A spread that wide is the honest answer: what you pay depends on the scope, so the table below shows every reading and who published it.(AI Policy Price Index: every row, with its source)

How many providers publish a price at all?

3 of the 31 read, out of 33 named. The others answer with a quote form. They are listed in the table as publishing no price rather than dropped, because the share of a market that will not put a number on its own page is itself a finding.(AI Policy Price Index: every row, with its source)

Where do these figures come from, and when were they read?

Each one is a sentence on the provider's own page, read on 2026-10-28 through our own fetch box and stored with the hash of the page's text, so the row can be checked against what was there that day. The row links to the page it came from.(AI Policy Price Index: every row, with its source)

Is this a price for my job?

No. Every figure here is what a provider advertises on its own page for its own packages, not a quote for your work, and the spread from £34.99 to £1,400 is exactly why. Scope is what moves it. Ask for a price and you get one; this page is so you know what you are hearing when you do.(AI Policy Price Index: every row, with its source)

Who answers an enquiry from this page?

Joe, who runs this site, reads every enquiry himself and replies directly. No firm receives your details. He gives information and a free call, never legal advice.
